Introducing me - Shannon Joubert
My name is Shannon Joubert. I live in Klerksdorp, North-West. I want to be a
Foundation Phase teacher because it will provide me the opportunity to teach
both life lessons and fundamental topics. I want to be a teacher because I want
to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children. I take the responsibility
of guiding children and teenagers toward becoming compassionate, considerate,
and helpful adults very seriously. I've always been appreciative to my teachers
and the school system for molding me into the person I am today. I only hope
that I can have the same good influence on my students' minds and hearts. I'm
passionate about teaching and assisting students in their growth. I am now an
online teacher, and I am excited to begin teaching once I get my degree. I
spent a year in China teaching students, and it was then that I realized that teaching
is my passion and what I want to pursue. The following quote serves as a
constant reminder of why I have a passion for teaching: “Show your passion
for what you love to do. The more excited you are, the more excited your
students will be.”
LSKM has piqued my interest at the start of this semester.
This module focuses on the importance of music and music activities in the
foundation phase, with a focus on both musical and non-musical purposes. I'm
looking forward to learning more about the specific knowledge and skills needed
to use music to achieve non-musical goals in the foundation phase, while also
allowing students to participate in fun, meaningful, authentic learning
activities that will help them develop their creative and critical thinking skills.
Musical instruction aids in the development of language and cognitive skills.
Early musical instruction helps students develop the regions of the brain that
deal with language and logic. Music helps develop the left side of the brain,
and songs can assist imprint knowledge on young minds. My outcomes for this
module are to obtain learning experiences related to how music should be taught
in the foundation phase, as well as to allow me to explore my own teaching
approaches.
